About this deal

The game was followed up by two racing game entries, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (2010) and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (2012). a b Buchanan, Levi (November 1, 2021). "Alex Kidd Retrospective". IGN. Archived from the original on December 18, 2021 . Retrieved December 18, 2021. It seems his recent athletic clash with Mario has rubbed off on Sonic: here he is with fifteen friends in a brightly coloured, special move-filled variation on good old lawn tennis, not unlike the plumber’s N64, Game Boy Advance and Gamecube outings, on the surface at least. This isn’t a simple formula rip, however: this is pure Sega through and through, from the blue skies to the vibrant Richard Jacques theme, but will it appeal to those whose Sega knowledge starts and ends with a hedgehog? But compared to other tennis games, it feels more automatic than it should be. The Nintendo DS version retains that "charge up the shot before it gets there" mechanic of the Virtua Tennis design, but even if it truly has variations in shot and timing, it really doesn't show it. Pressing the shot button or buttons early or right on time seem to have the same effect. Charging shots makes it easier to hit the ball, and there's really no strategy in using the character's charging strength to really powerhouse the ball over the net.

It also feels like the team has stripped down the simulation aspect of Virtua Tennis in favor of a design that'd appeal to players who might be turned off by a realistic take of tennis. That's not to say that SEGA Superstars Tennis doesn't play like tennis; it definitely does. You can place hard shots, lobs, play the net and overhand smash the ball with a well positioned shot. You can aim your serves tight or loose to the line to ace your opponent. You can dive for an out of reach ball, even if the animation plays out the character's personality (Sonic does a forward flip instead of sliding to the ball, for example). a b c Geddes, Ryan (March 19, 2008). Exhibition Mode offers the chance to challenge a character to a match on one of many courts, including Sonic's home court of Green Hill Zone, or Amigo's Carnival Park court. Whichever court is chosen, there are a host of Sega celebrities cheering them on from court side.SEGA Superstars Tennis was ported to MAC along with Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. However, SEGA Superstars Tennis was never released on PC. In terms of the ten courts (four of which are open to start with), there's the Green Hill and Scrap Brain Zones (Sonic the Hedgehog), as well as Coconut Beach (OutRun), Monkey Island (Super Monkey Ball), Galactic Cruiser (Space Channel 5), Shibuya Cho (Jet Set Radio), The Curien Mansion (The House of the Dead), Aqua Garden (NiGHTS), Carnival Park (Samba De Amigo) and one more we're bound and gagged not to reveal yet. On top of that, the obligatory daft mini-games will be inspired by The House of the Dead, Puyo Pop, Space Harrier, Samba De Amigo, Virtua Cop, and a few others we, again, must take to our graves. Assuming we meet our doom between now and mid March. You never know who's in the trees. Waiting. The Wii version of SEGA Superstars Tennis arrives stateside with one glaring omission – namely, the online mode destined to extend the replay value of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 builds is sorely absent from this incarnation. SEGA reps recently stated that there wasn't enough time to include the feature. Instead, Wii owners are able to play the title with three different control schemes – the standalone Wii remote held vertically, the standalone Wii remote held horizontally, or the Wii remote and nunchuk combo, which features waggle and seems to be the most intuitive setup, in our experience. Carrier Zone ( After Burner): Includes cameos from workers, pilots and the F-14 Tomcat the player pilots in After Burner. Vore, Bryan (May 2008). "Sega Superstars Tennis (Wii)". Game Informer.
